Five Named All-Ivy in Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA - Five members of the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team have been namedAll-Ivy League Second Team or Honorable Mention.

The group is highlighted by a pair of midfielders - senior John Rhodes and sophomore Derek Hobson - who have been named to the second team.

They are joined by senior midfielder Jon Abelson, sophomore defender Keith Vereb and freshman forward Mike Klein, who were named All-Ivy Honorable Mention.

Rhodes, a co-captain, started 11 of 14 games in the central midfield and scored two goals. He was also named to the second team last season, and was an honorable mention honoree in 2002.Hobson started 13 of 14 games and had a goal and an assist.

Abelson, also a co-captain, started 14 of 15 games played and took nine shots. Vereb, in his first season at Penn after transferring from Maryland, started all 16 games on the backline and scored a pair of goals. Klein made his debut season a memorable one by leading the team with 12 points on five goals and two assists while starting 14 of 16 games played.

The Quakers finished the season 9-6-1 and 2-4-1 in the Ivy League.
