Five Named CSA All-American in Women's Squash

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team had five individuals named to the College Squash Association All-American teams. Freshman Anaka Alankamony and sophomore Yan Xin Tan were named first-team All-American, while senior Courtney Jones, sophomore Haidi Lala, and freshman Michelle Wong were named second-team All-American.

The five helped lead Penn to an 11-4 overall record, including a 6-1 Ivy League record. The Quakers finished the season fourth in the country after playing in the CSA Team Championships Howe Cup. Penn had the most recipients of All-American honors for the 2013-14 season.

Alankamony posted a 6-5 overall record and a 4-1 Ivy League record. The freshman also went 3-1 in the CSA Individual Championships Ramsay Cup, falling to the eventual two-time champion Amanda Sobhy from Harvard.

Being named first-team All-American for the second year in a row, Tan finished with an 8-7 overall record, and 5-2 record in the Ivy League playing in the first and second positions for Penn. The sophomore also finished 4-1 in the CSA Ramsay Cup, defeating fellow teammate Michelle Wong in the Ramsay Cup consolation final.

Becoming an integral piece of the Quakers’ ladder in her final season, Jones played in every match for Penn, finishing with an 11-4 record, including 6-1 in the Ivy League. The senior earned her fist All-American honor going 7-1 in the No. 3 position, while also played at the fourth and fifth spot. She also finished with two wins in the CSA Individual Ramsay Cup.

Lala, played in the No. 2-4 positions for Penn, finishing with an 11-3, 5-1 Ivy record. The sophomore went a perfect 4-0 playing in the second position, and won two of her three individual matches in the CSA Team Championships Howe Cup. This is her first CSA All-American honor.

As a freshman, Wong was an important piece for the Quakers in the middle of their lineup. She went 10-3 overall, including 4-2 in Ivy play. She also advanced to the CSA Individual Ramsay Cup consolation final, before falling to her teammate Yan Xin Tan.
