Five Quakers Earn All-Ivy Honors for Women's Track and Field

PHILADELPHIA – Five members of the University of Pennsylvania women’s track and field team earned Outdoor All-Ivy honors for their efforts at the 2009 Heptagonal Championships at Franklin Field May 9-10. All five garnered second team merits and all five will be returning to the Quakers for at least one more season.

Junior Anna Aagenes is the eldest member of the Quakers’ honorees. She is joined by sophomore Kali Strother, and a trio of freshmen in Renee McDougall, Leah Brown and Paige Madison.

Aagenes, who also earned second team All-Ivy indoor honors this season, was the Heptagonal runner-up in the 800 meters, finishing second to the eventual ECAC champion. The Doylestown, Pa., native topped the Regional mark for the third time this season, and was just off of her career best time. A week later, at the ECAC Championships on May 16, Aagenes did set a personal best with the third-fastest time in school history (2:07.44).

The remaining four underclassmen earned the second team distinction with the second-fastest 400-meter relay in school history. McDougall led off the first 100 meters out of lane eight and handed to Strother, who handed off to Madison. Brown took the anchor leg and ran the Quakers to a finish of 46.51, placing the team second. They were only beaten by Cornell’s Ivy League record time. Penn’s time stands as the seventh-best performance in outdoor Heptagonal history.

The season continues for two Quakers at the NCAA East Regional Championships on May 29-30. Aagenes and senior Leah Brogan will each represent the Red and Blue at the meet with a chance to reach the NCAA Championships.
