PHILADELPHIA - Due to the Pope's impending visit to Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania football game at Villanova has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 24. Kickoff at Villanova Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26. The Pope will visit the City of Brotherly Love, Sept. 26-27 with an estimated 1.5 to 2 million visitors expected in Philadelphia.
Penn's last Thursday night game was also at Villanova. The sixth-ranked Wildcats held off the 23rd-ranked and eventual Ivy League champion Quakers, 17-3, on Oct. 10, 2002.
Penn will open its first season under head coach Ray Priore on Sept. 19 at Lehigh at 12:30 p.m. The Franklin Field home opener for Priore and the Quakers will be 10 days after the matchup with the Wildcats - an Oct. 3 contest with Ivy rival Dartmouth.
Season tickets are set to go on sale July 8.
