Football Back in Media and Coaches Top 25

TSN/ Media Poll

FCS Coaches Poll

PHILADELPHIA - Both the FCS media and coaches have recognized the University of Pennsylvania as a Top 25 football team this week. The Quakers rank 25th in the FCS Coaches Poll as well as in The Sports Network/ Top 25 media poll.

Absent for the last two weeks after a loss to the No. 1 team in the nation, the Quakers are back in the TSN media poll. The Red and Blue were ranked as high as No. 23 in the preseason media poll this year and were ranked No. 24 the week of their matchup with top-ranked Villanova.

This is the first time since the end of last season that the Quakers cracked the coaches poll. They were slated at No. 23 in the final poll of 2009.

The Quakers are the only Ivy League team in either poll. They earned 309 points in the media poll which was 24 points better than Furman, who was tops among those receiving votes. Appalachian State was ranked No. 1 with 106 first-place votes and 3,586 points.

In the coaches poll, Penn received 53 points to sneak into the polls ahead of Elon's 51 points. Appalachian State was also ranked No. 1 by the coaches, receiving 25 of the 27 first-place votes and 671 points.

The Quakers are back in action this week when they welcome Columbia to Franklin Field. The Lions are on their first three-game winning streak since 1997 and boast the highest scoring offense in the Ivy League, but they haven't won in Philadelphia since 1995. Kickoff is at noon. The game is on local television on the Comcast Network as well as national radio on SIRIUS channel 130. Locally, the game can be heard on WNTP 990AM.

The Top 25 polls are released every Monday afternoon during the regular season. On the final weekend, the TSN media poll is used as an official tool by the NCAA Division I Football Committee in selecting the 20-team playoff field.
