Football Holds Spring Game and Alumni BBQ

PHILADELPHIA – Spring workouts came to an end for the University of Pennsylvania football team on a sunny April day as the 17-time Ivy League Champions hosted the James D. Dunsmore ’61 Spring Game on April 10.

Over 500 Friends of Penn Football – including 75 alumni of the program dating back to the 1950s – converged upon Franklin Field to celebrate Penn Football. An “Alumni Combine” was held in the morning, followed by a 1.5-hour scrimmage by the Quakers. Families, friends, and alumni were able to stand on the sidelines or enjoy a BBQ under the Franklin Field scoreboard while the scrimmage was held.

The Quakers will return five All-Ivy selections for the 2016 campaign, including unanimous first-team All-Ivy wide receiverJustin Watsonand first-team quarterbackAlek Torgersen. The Ivy League’s premier offensive connection will be joined by second-team All-Ivy offensive linemanDaniel Poulosand honorable mention selectionsNick DemesandDonald Panciello.

Penn will begin the 2016 season with the nation’s sixth-longest winning streak, having claimed victory in its final six games last season. All six of those wins were inside the Ivy League – giving the Red and Blue the country’s fifth-longest conference winning streak as 2016 beckons.
