PHILADELPHIA – Monday marked the first official day of football season for the University of Pennsylvania as all 100-plus team members reported for the start of preseason camp. The team will have their first official practice Tuesday night.

After checking in with the coaching staff early Monday morning, players will report for physicals, be fitted for equipment, and go through a series of meetings as a team and with their respective position coaches.

There are 28 scheduled practices leading up to the season opener on Sept. 18. Preseason camp consists of daily practices and meetings as well as several scrimmages leading into the first day of classes on Sept. 8. The team will be in full pads for the first time on Aug. 28.

Earlier this month, the Quakers were ranked No. 23 in the TSN Top 25 media poll and were picked to finish second in the Ivy League media poll. Penn returns 42 letterwinners for 2010, including 15 starters and 10 All-Ivy honorees. Eight starters will return on offense, five starters are back from the nation's top-ranked defense, and both specialists will return.

Penn begins its quest for the program's 15th Ivy League title on Sept. 18 against Lafayette at Franklin Field. The first kickoff of the season is at 7 p.m. The Quakers will host four more at Franklin Field beginning with Dartmouth on Oct. 2 at 3:30 p.m. Columbia will then visit during Family Weekend on Oct. 16 with kickoff at noon, followed by the Homecoming game against Brown, which starts at 1:30 p.m. on October 30. In the 2010 home finale on Nov. 13, Penn will host Harvard at 1:30 p.m.
