PHILADELPHIA – Though the majority of the players on the University of Pennsylvania football team have been on campus for the past few weeks, Monday marked the first official day of football season for the Quakers as all 110 team members reported for the start of preseason camp.
After checking in with the coaching staff early Monday morning, players will report for physicals, be fitted for equipment, and go through a series of meetings as a team and with their respective position coaches.
The team will have their first official practice Tuesday night. Preseason camp consists of daily practices and meetings as well as several scrimmages leading into the first day of classes on Sept. 9. The team will be in full pads for the first time on Aug. 29 and will host Widener in their first scrimmage on Sept. 4.
Eight offensive, seven defensive and all three specialist starters return for the 2009 campaign. The Quakers were picked to finish second in the preseason Ivy League media poll.
