Football Receiving Votes in National Poll

TSN Media Top 25

PHILADELPHIA - With the release of the first Top 25 FCS media poll by The Sports Network (TSN) on Friday, the Univeristy of Pennsylvania football team earned some preseason recognition, receiving votes in the national poll.

Penn received 56 points in the preseason poll, ranking 42nd among the 78 teams in the rankings. The Quakers, who return the majority of their starters in all three phases of the game after a 5-2 Ivy campaign in 2008, was not in the top 25 of the national media preseason poll last season, but was receiving votes throughout most of the year.

Five of Penn's 10 opponents are at least receiving votes in the poll. This includes Villanova, Penn's first oponnent, who opens the season ranked No. 5 in the nation. Harvard, the favorite in the Ivy League media poll, is ranked 23rd to begin the 2009 season.

Other Penn opponents receiving votes include Brown (32), Lafayette (17) and Yale (4).

For a record fourth consecutive year, Appalachian State has been voted as the No. 1 team in The Sports Network FCS preseason top-25 poll.
