Football Welcomes 29 in Class of 2020

PHILADELPHIA – A new crop of Quakers will take to the gridiron this fall as head coach Ray Priore and the University of Pennsylvania football team welcome 29 players to the Red and Blue as members of the Class of 2020.

A full breakdown of the Class of 2020, including individual bios and video highlights can be found below. The complete group was also announced on instagram (@pennfootball).

“It is always a great moment when we get to officially welcome our newest class of scholar athletes to our program,” said Priore. “We have scoured the country in search of the right type of player to succeed in a Penn uniform, and we are confident that we have put together a group which will fit right in with our team. This group is filled with high character people who are aiming at big goals – two traits we value immensely at Penn. I am excited for the fall and to see these young men put on the red and blue.”

The Quakers will add 16 players on the defensive side of the ball – including six linebackers and six defensive backs to go with four linemen. Penn will bring in 12 on the offensive side – including three running backs, two quarterbacks, two right ends, two wide receivers and one who can line up in multiple spots on the field. In addition, the Quakers will add to their special teams corps with one kicker coming in.

The Class of 2020 hails from 13 different states – California and Texas lead the way with four newcomers each. Colorado, New York and New Jersey are next with three incoming freshmen each, while Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, and Pennsylvania will see two players head to University City. Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, and Virginia each have one player set to join the Penn lineup.

The 140th season of Penn Football will begin with official practices in August before the Quakers take the field for the first time against Lehigh at Franklin Field on September 17. The Red and Blue will be defending an Ivy League championship for the 17th time after a 2015 campaign which saw Penn post a 7-3 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Ivy play.
