Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd

North Conway, N.H. - Former cross country and track and field standout, Christine Lundy, C’92 V’96, was featured in the most recent issue of Sports Illustrated (July 27) as a member of the weekly “Faces in the Crowd” segment.

Lundy earned the recognition after she won the women’s race at the USA Mountain Running championships in North Conway, N.H., on June 28. Lundy was the winner with a time of 57:16, nearly a minute faster than the nearest competitor. The course consisted of two 5.5-kilometer laps up and down Cranmore Mountain.

Lundy, who has finished as high as fifth at the Boston Marathon, is a member of the Penn Athletics Hall of Fame. The three-time All-American still holds the Penn school record in the indoor 5,000 meters wither her time of 16:47.43 in 1992. She is also in the Penn record books in the indoor 3,000 meters (second), indoor mile (third), indoor 1,000 meters (sixth), outdoor 5,000 meters (second), outdoor 3,000 meters (second), and in the outdoor 1,500 meters (ninth).

Lundy earned two of her All-America honors in cross country (1989 and 1991) and garnered her other All-America distinction in the outdoor 3,000 meters (1992). She also earned first-team Heptagonal honors in cross country in 1990 and 1991.
