Four Named All-Region in Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA - Four members of the Penn women's lacrosse team have been named to IWLCA All-Region teams. Senior defender Kate Parker and sophomore midfielder Allison Ambrozy are First Team selections, and senior defender Lauren McDermott and senior attacker Ali Ryan have been named to the Second Team.

The four are now eligible for IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America consideration. That team will be announced May 30.

Parker, who was also named First Team All-Ivy earlier this month, started all 16 games on defense and had 17 ground balls and as many caused turnovers. A tenacious defender,the co-captainalso took care of the ball,comitting justseven turnovers all season, including four through the first 15 games. She went nine-straight games without a turnover this season. Parker was previously honoredas an IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region selection in 2004.

Ambrozy earns her first All-Region honor after a breakout sophomore season in the midfield. Shewas among the leaders in virtually every statistical category on the team, leading the Quakers in draw controls (29), ground balls (25), and caused turnovers (20). Offensively,, shescored 19 points with nine assists. She ended the season with a bang, scoring six goals over the final three games, including a hat trick and the late game-winner at Syracuse on May 7. Ambrozy was named a Second TeamAll-Ivy earlier this month.

McDermott earns her first All-Region honor after starting every game on defense. A team co-captain, McDermott collected 22 ground balls, had 14 caused turnovers and eight draw controls. As one of two seniors anchoring the backline, she helped Penn hold opponents to 310 shots while having a +38 goal differential. A Second TeamAll-Ivy selection this year, she was also named Academic All-Ivy earlier this week.

Ryan was the team's leading goalscorer, tallying 24 goals during the season. A team co-captain, she had nine multi-goal games, and was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week on March 6 after leading Penn to a 3-0 start with eight goals over three games. A three-year starter, Ryan graduates from Penn with 64 career goals. It is her first All-Region honor. Ryan is also a Second TeamAll-Ivy honoree.

The Quakers ended the 2006 campaign at 10-6 overall.
