Four Selected First-Team All-Ivy in Baseball

PHILADELPHIA – In helping lead the University of Pennsylvania baseball team to a 24-17 overall mark, including 15-5 in the Ivy League, Austin Bossart, Rick Brebner, Connor Cuff, and Ryan Mincher were named first-team All-Ivy this week for their contributions on the diamond.

In addition to the four first-team honors, Jeff McGarry and Mike Vilardo were named second-team All-Ivy, with Ronnie Glenn, Jake Cousins, and Brandon Engelhardt earning honorable mention.

The nine Quakers honored are the most ever for a Penn team, breaking the previous mark of seven that was achieved in 1992, 1995, and 2011.

Austin Bossart earned League honors for the second time in his career after being named honorable mention in 2012. This season, the junior catcher hit .297 overall and .303 in Ivy play, while starting all 41 games for the Quakers behind the plate, or first base. He totaled 19 RBI, while hitting four home runs and nine doubles throughout the season. Bossart was named Ivy League Player of the Week on April 22.

Senior Rick Brebner earned first-team honors in consecutive seasons now, after doing so last year as a utility player. The outfielder earned back-to-back Ivy Player of the Week honors on April 2 and 8, the first-time ever a Penn player has done so, while finishing second in the League in home runs with eight. Brebner also led the Quakers with 31 RBI, good enough for fourth in the Ivies.

Drawing the toughest games all season long as the No. 1 starter, Connor Cuff went 5-3 overall, and 4-2 in the Ivy League, with a 1.77 ERA and a 2.31 ERA against Ivy opponents. The junior right-handed pitcher struck out 27 batters in 39.0 innings pitched in League play, while totaling 49 strikeouts in 66.0 innings pitched overall.

Leading Penn in batting in Ivy play, sophomore Ryan Mincher hit .328, with six doubles, and 11 RBI, while walking a team-leading 11 times against the League. The shortstop also homered four times this season, while driving in a total of 24 runs for the Quakers.

Jeff McGarry and Mike Vilardo both were recognized for the first time with their second-team selection. A junior, McGarry was second on the team in RBI this past season with 30, while the sophomore Vilardo hit .304, while leading the team in doubles with 14.

Being named honorable mention, junior Ronnie Glenn went 4-0 for the Quakers against Ivy opponents, with a 5-2 overall record, while freshman Jake Cousins finished 3-0 in League play, with a 4-0 overall record. Senior Brandon Engelhardt hit .302 in Ivy play with four doubles, a triple, and a home run.
