PHILADELPHIA – Fresh off a breakout performance at the Valley Forge Sports Penn Invitational over the weekend, freshman Caroline Furrer of the Penn volleyball team was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Seeing her first-ever action inside The Palestra, Furrer did not disappoint. The Texas native piled up a team-high 51 kills, leading the Quakers to wins over Bucknell, George Mason and Lafayette. In addition, she became the first Quaker to rack up 20 kills in a match—a feat she did in a 3-1 win over George Mason—since 2014. Furrer showed off the versatility as well, as she also tallied 36 digs, nine blocks and seven aces over the four matches. She was rewarded for her efforts with a slot on the All-Tournament team, along with teammate Courtney Quinn.
Furrer and the rest of the Quakers will be back in action this weekend at the Big 5 Invitational. Penn will take on La Salle at home on Friday night (7 p.m.) before heading to La Salle on Saturday for matches against Villanova and Temple.
