PHILADELPHIA – University of Pennsylvania baseball senior Ronnie Glenn has recently been named a finalist for the 2015 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby Fans’ Choice Award. This annual award, now in its fourth year, recognizes college baseball players for their inspiring accomplishments on and off the baseball field.
The 18 finalists selected for this year’s award each demonstrate leadership and commitment in all aspects of life, stay active in their community, are dedicated in the classroom and inspire the will to win among those around them.
Voting is now open for the award, and the winner will be determined by fans through Facebook voting and will be honored at the 2015 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby. Fans can view profiles of the finalists and vote daily by visiting www.fanschoiceaward.com.
Glenn recently completed his career as a Quakers earning Honorable Mention All-Ivy recognition in his senior season. The left-handed pitcher made nine appearances, all starts, with a 4-3 record and a 3.12 ERA, with 48 strikeouts in 52.0 innings of work.
After beginning his career as a relief pitcher, Glenn has been a starter the past two seasons, compiling a 9-5 record and 96 strikeouts in 106.2 innings pitched.
Glenn was recently named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District® First-team, and is also one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award®. Earlier this year he was named one of 24 national semifinalists for the Athletes for a Better World’s Wooden Citizenship Cup.
Off the field, Glenn has done some of his best work as the Penn Baseball Outreach Coordinator. The senior arranges team visits to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and is in charge of coordinating fundraising efforts with the Vs. Cancer Foundation. In the last two years, the Penn baseball team and community has helped raise around $16,000 for childhood cancer research.
During his time on campus, Glenn has become a member and leader of the Penn Newman Catholic Ministry, and participates in Penn’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also is a member of the Wharton Undergraduate Consulting Club, and the Undergraduate Sports Business Club. Additionally, Glenn works as an operations home event supervisor for Penn Athletics.
The TD Ameritrade Fans’ Choice Award is the only college baseball award determined solely by fans. There are three rounds of voting: Round One opens today and ends June 8 when the top 12 vote getters move on to Round Two. The field will then be reduced to the top four vote getters on June 15. Round Three voting will end and TD Ameritrade will officially announce the winner June 22. The winner also will be honored at the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Neb., on July 2.
