PHILADELPHIA – University of Pennsylvania baseball seniors Ronnie Glenn and Matt McKinnon were recently named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District® Baseball First-Team in District Two, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month and in early June.
The left-handed pitching Ronnie Glenn is a political science major, and recently finished his senior season with a 4-3 overall record with a 3.12 ERA in 52.0 innings pitched. Glenn started nine games on the mound for Penn, throwing five complete games, and finished tied for second in the Ivy League in strikeouts with 48. He is also one of 10 finalists selected for the Senior CLASS Award.
Starting in 32 games at first base for the Quakers, Matt McKinnon hit .333 with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 26 RBI. McKinnon, a political science major, finished the year with a .402 on-base percentage and a .491 slugging percentage. He was second on Penn’s team in hitting and fielded .990 at first base.
The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fourth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.
Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
