PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics Head Coach Tom Kovic has announced his Class of 2010. Six student-athletes from across the country will compete for the Quakers next winter
“It seems each new recruiting cycle continues to improve,” said Kovic. “These are six quality student-athletes who will make an immediate contribution to the team as freshmen.”
Lucy LaCour (Madison, Ind.), Meghan Eastman (Norcross, Ga.), Jenny Hurst (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Marissa Rosen (Annandale, Va.) are all former junior Olympians who could secure all-around roles on the 2007 squad. Samantha Benson (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Lizzie Lowe (Norcross, Ga.) are both decorated Level 10 regional competitors. Benson is an exceptional bars and beam competitor while Lowe is a vaulting and bars specialist.
“These are talented student-athletes,” Kovic said. “What is most impressive is the character these women display and the strong principles and values they possess. These are good people who are going to achieve great goals and help lead worthy teams in the future.”
The Class of 2010 will have a chance to make an immediate impact as the Quakers stand to lose seven gymnasts to graduation after this season.
“With the loss of a spectacular senior class to graduation, Penn will certainly be a young team next season,” Kovic said.
