PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team returned to its winning ways Friday night, capturing a dual-meet with Wilson, 186.350 to 170.375, at Hutchinson Gymnasium.
The Quakers (3-3) snapped a two-game losing streak whilethe Phoenix(0-5)are still searching for its first victory of the season.
"This was a very invigorated team," said Head Coach Tom Kovic. "We had our disappointment last weekend. We decided it was behind us and that was that."
The Quakers turned in several standout individual scores. Lauren Markowitz won the vault with a 9.575, while Stephanie Ortiz and Kerri Lutfey had 9.475 and 9.450, respectively. On bars, Ortiz tied her career-high with a meet-best 9.65, and on beam, Kim Chin and Lutfey were solid with scores of 9.650 and 9.575. Mia Turner won the floor with a 9.625.
"It's nice to know you have a team resilient enough to come back from a bad performance, and deep enough to mix up the line-up," Kovic said.
No Quakers participated in the all-around. Sarah Massey was the high scorer for Wilson with a 35.200.
Penn returns to Hutch on Wednesday, facing cross-city rival Temple at 6 p.m.
