Gymnastics Comes Back to Defeat Temple and Ursinus

Philadelphia, Pa.- The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team continued its winning ways on Saturday versus Temple and Ursinus at McGonigle Hall.TheQuakersposted a 188.300 score to win the meet. Temple finished with a 186.725 to place second while Ursinus finished third with a 178.200.

The Quakers fell behind in the first two events of the day. Temple won the vault with a score of 46.600 to the Quakers 46.450 and then went on to win the uneven bars with a 47.900. However, the Red and Blue bounced back, earning a 46.275 on the beam and a 48.800 on the floor to capture the meet.

Saidsenior captain Lex Chalat, " The greatest thing about this team is that they're a fighting team. When things get rough, we stick together and come out stronger than ever."

Individually,senior Leah Moon won the vault with a 9.475 and the beam with a 9.525. Junior Emily Petkun won the floor event with a 9.875.Freshman Kimberly Chin tied for second on the uneven bars with a 9.600. On the beam, junior Laura Duros finished tied for second place with a 9.500, Petkun placed fourth with a 9.250 and Chin was fifth with a 9.150. Duros and Chalat followed Petkun on the floor, finishing second with a 9.825 and third with a 9.750, respectively.

The Quakers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 6:00 p.m. when they host Temple in Hutchinson Gymnasium.
