PHILADELPHIA--The Quakers defeated Yale 184.900-181.475 in their Ivy opener, Saturday at Hutchinson Gym. Senior Jordan Brewer once again led Penn in the all-around with a score of 37.025, just one tenth shy of winning the all-around. That honor went to Yale's Alina Liao with a score of 37.125.
The Quakers' first event, vault, was their best scoring 46.950 as a team. Freshman Laura DiPaolo was Penn's last competitor in the event and scored at 9.750 which held as the highest for either team on the day. In that rotation, Yale struggled on bars, falling more than four points behind.
Next, on bars, Elise Bowe and Lizzie Lowe each scored 9.450 to lead the team.
On beam, senior Sarah Parsons continued to impress with another 9.625 performance while newcomer Rebecca Engberg turned in a 9.525 and Bowe registered a 9.450.
The Elis made up some ground with a 47.125 on the floor exercise, but it was not enough to eclipse the Quakers.
Inits final event, floor, Penn was led by a strong routine from Brewer who turned in a 9.525.
The Quakers will hit the road for their first away meet of the season, traveling to Rutgets on Jan. 24 where they will face George Washington, William & Mary as well as the Scarlet Knights. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
