ITHACA, N.Y. - The Penn gymnastics team almost pulled it off against Ivy champion Cornell, Saturday afternoon in Teagle Gymnasium, as the Big Redoutscored the Quakers by just .125.Penn earned a 190.375, just shy of Cornell's190.500.
Leading the way for the Quakers on vault was sophomore Laura DiPaolo with a9.625, followed closely by freshmen Kirsten Strausbaugh's 9.600 and Megan Milavec's 9.525. As a team the Red and Blue accumulated a 47.300.
Freshman Dana Bonincontri took first-place on bars with a 9.725, while Strausbaugh scored a 9.575 as Penn earned a 47.350.
Again Bonincontri led the team with 9.700 on beam with sophomore Katie Graham adding a strong 9.650 to the board and Milavec earning a 9.600 with her routine. The Quakers marked their second-highest score of the season on the event with a 47.950.
Strausbaugh tied for first-place on floor, receiving a 9.775, trailed closely by Bonincontri's strong 9.750 that rounded out her team-leading 38.500 all-around total. Strausbaugh finished with a 38.450, and Milavec earned a 37.475.
The Quakers are back in action next Saturday when they compete at the ECAC championships, hosted by Temple at noon.
