Gymnastics Falls at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Penn women's gymnastics team was unable to catch Cornell for the second time this season, falling 188.275-186.3 in Ithaca on Saturday.

Penn (10-8) got its strongest performance once again from senior Emily Petkun, who won the all-around with a 37.925, but Penn couldn't get things going on the floor, which proved to be the team's downfall.

"We had a rough meet on floor," said Head Coach Tom Kovic. "We had to count a point and a half in falls alone. Barrs, however, did a really good job today. It was a well-deserved win for Cornell."

The Quakers scored a 47.300 combined on bars, highlighted by Kara Dewhurst's 9.575 and Stephanie Ortiz's 9.525. On vault, Jordan Brewer earned a 9.600 and Petkun a 9.5, while Petkun and Kerri Lutfey won the beam competition with 9.5's. Ortiz posted a 9.625 and Lutfey a 9.575 on floor.

Penn, now finished with its dual-meet season, heads to the ECAC Championships next Saturday at Rhode Island.
