Gymnastics Falls In Dual Meet at Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team suffered its third loss of the season Saturday, falling to Rhode Island 186.375 to 182.625.

The Quakers (2-3) lost their second-straight dual meet while the Rams (2-2) won their first dual meet of 2006.

Penn suffered 14 falls out of 24 routines.

“Obviously we’re very, very disappointed,” said Head Coach Tom Kovic.

The highlight of the afternoon was Penn senior Emily Petkun, who won the all-around competition with a 37.400. Freshman Lauren Markowitz won the vault with a 9.450. Kimberly Chin took second on the bars with a 9.700, just 0.05 points off her career-best, while Petkun captured the balance beam with a 9.525.

The Quakers, however, faltered on floor, turning in a 43.525 for the rotation.

Penn returns home for a dual meet with Wilson Friday at 6 p.m.
