PHILADELPHIA – Though the result doesn’t reflect it, the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team is able to come away from Saturday’s meet with a show of promise despite dropping a dual meet with Illinois State, 190.4-187.9, in the new John R. Rockwell Gym inside Hutchinson Gymnasium.
Competing in the new facility and strengthened by the home crowd, the Penn women displayed better focus and energy than they did a week ago at George Washington.
“I thought we had much better focus this afternoon than a week ago,” said Head Coach John Ceralde.
“We’re a young team, and we’re just going to keep working on ourconsistency throughout the season.”
Penn was led by Carissa Lim on vault (9.50), Diana Moock on bars (9.65), Kelly Tan on beam (9.75) and Lim on floor (9.70).
Moock was the only all-around gymnast for the Quakers, and finished with a 37.425.
Illinois State was led by junior Samantha King, who placed first individually in all four events and finished the afternoon with an all-around score of 38.975.
