Gymnastics Finishes Fourth at ECAC Championships

PHILADELPHIA – Despite compiling their second best team score on the season, the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team finished fourth out of six teams in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships on Saturday at Temple.

Penn’s 191.275 team score was its second highest total on the season. The Quakers recorded their highest total of 191.450 on March 1 at Illinois State.

On Saturday, Penn did record its best beam score on the season, totaling a 48.575, leading all teams. The Quakers totaled a 47.750 on vault, 47.725 on bars, and 47.225 on floor.

Individually on the beam, freshman Rachel Graham recorded a 9.800, setting a team and personal high on the event. The result was also good enough for a tie for first place for the championships. Sophomore Amber Hu and freshman Kelly Tan both recorded a 9.700, earning a tie for fifth place in the meet. For Hu, the 9.700 was a season-high mark on the beam.

On floor, sophomore Carissa Lim earned a 9.650 for her routine, giving her a tie for sixth place in the event.

Junior Amber Woo competed in the all-around for the second time this season for the Quakers scoring a 9.550 on vault, a 9.450 on bars, 9.650 on beam, and 9.600 on floor for a total of 38.250.

Other career-high marks set by Penn gymnasts came from junior Jennifer Silver completing a 9.600 routine on bars, freshman Kelly Tan scoring a 9.650, also on bars, matching her previous career-high, and freshman Jill Fordiani matching her previous career-high on vault with a 9.575.

The Penn gymnastics team will now prepare for the USAG Collegiate Nationals, which occur April 10-13 in Providence, R.I.
