Washington, D.C. -Junior Emily Petkun finished fourth in the all-around with atotalscore of 37.975 as theUniversity of Pennsylvania gymnastics teamplaced fourth atthe George Washington Invitational with a score of 184.975 to open the 2005 season.
Petkun also turned in the Quakers best performance on theuneven bars with a9.375 and on the beam, this time with a score of 9.625. That gave her third in the event and senior Leah Moon finished fourth with a score of 9.575. Junior Laura Duros turned in the top performance for the Red and Blue in the floor exercise with a 9.6 to tie for fifth. Freshman Kelly Sievert finished 10th in the event with a 9.5 in her first collegiate performance. Senior Laura Bouchelle was the Quakers highest scorer on the vault with a 9.675.
North Carolina finished first in the event for the second year in a row with a 190.85, followed by Towson (188.375), host George Washington (187), Penn, Temple (183.725), Cornell (183.425) and William & Mary (181.8).
The Quakers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 22 when they host Yale in Hutchinson Gymnasium at 1 p.m.
