Gymnastics Finishes Fourth in GW Invitational

WASHINGTON D.C. – The 2014 season opener for the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team saw the Quakers finish fourth out of four competing squads in the Lindsey Ferris Inviational hosted by George Washington on Sunday afternoon.

Penn finished in fourth with a score of 183.125, placing behind host George Washington (1st – 193.025), Cornell (2nd – 188.750) and Temple (3rd – 186.775).

The Quakers face new challenges this season as defending back-to-back ECAC championships, and will see a number of individuals take on larger roles, after the graduation of key contributors from a year ago.

The Red and Blue started the afternoon on the beam and saw Amber Hu (T-3rd, 9.600), Kelly Tan (6th, 9.525) and Carissa Lim (T-9th, 9.400) finish in the top-10 of the event.

On floor, senior Nicki Valenti (9th, 9.625) and freshman Rachel Graham (10th, 9.525) led Penn.

The Quakers did not place an individual in the top-10 of vault or the uneven bars.

With the season opener completed, Penn will host Illinois State on Saturday Jan. 18, at 12 p.m. The Quakers’ home competitions will take place in the John R. RockwellCourt inside Hutchinson Gymnasium.
