Gymnastics Finishes Second at Home Meet

PHILADLEPHIA – After picking up their first win of the season last weekend, the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team picked up another victory Saturday in a tri-meet at Hutchinson Gym. Penn (2-3) scored 189.925 points, second behind Towson’s 192.950. The Quakers victory came over Temple who tallied 187.900 points.

Marissa Rosen (38.400) and Stephanie Ortiz (38.15) fell just points shy of winning the all-around competition. The Tigers Jackie Schweitzer (38.9) and Decelia Willacy (38.875) took the top-two spots.

The Red and Blue came in second in three events ant tied Towson for first on the bars with a 47.875. Rosen led all competitors with a 9.775. Stefanie Navarro scored a 9.625 to tie for fourth.

Jordan Brewer had a solid performance on the vault, scoring a 9.725, which was good for third place and ties a career best. Rosen had Penn’s second-best performance, scoring a 9.675. The Quakers scored a 47.575 on the vault, trailing Towson’s 48.700.

Ortiz led Penn on the beam with a 9.525, while as a team the Quakers compiled a score of 46.700. On the floor, Rosen and Willacy tied for first with a 9.775. Ortiz was just behind scoring a 9.725. Freshman Lizzie Lowe had the Quakers third-best score totaling 9.55. Penn scored a 47.725 in their final event. The Tigers took the floor routine with a 48.600.

Next Saturday, Penn takes part in the Liberty Classic against Temple, West Chester, Ursinus and Bridgeport. The meet takes place at Temple at 1 p.m.
