Gymnastics Finishes Second in ?Think Pink? Meet

PHILADELPHIA – With Rockwell Gym packed to the brim and the color pink everywhere, the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team took second-place behind visiting Rutgers and ahead of West Chester Sunday afternoon in the Penn’s ‘Think Pink’ meet.

The Quakers, along with Rutgers and West Chester donned special competition leotards featuring pink for the meet. Penn sponsored the event in which the gymnastics team sold t-shirts with the proceeds going to the Unite for Her Foundation, whose mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of women and girls by supporting and providing breast cancer and wellness programs that educate, empower and restore. Sue Weldon, President and Founder of Unite for Her, spoke before the meet thanking all the teams and those in attendance who participated in helping support the cause of fighting breast cancer.

In the competition, Penn scored a 190.850, to finish second behind Rutgers (193.675) and ahead of West Chester (190.650). After scoring a 190.550 last weekend, Sunday’s score is the highest team total of the year for the Quakers.

Starting the afternoon on vault, Penn was led by junior Wynne Levy who recorded a 9.700, placing here just outside the top-three individuals for all competitors. Not too far behind Levy was Emily Paterson for Penn, scoring a 9.675.

Makeda Constable led Penn on bars, with a 9.600, followed by Diana Moock with a 9.525.

Penn had three strong beam routines, led by Carissa Lim (9.725) finishing in third-place overall on the event. Right behind her in a tie for fourth were Amber Woo and Kelly Tan, with 9.700 scores.

On floor Lim shined again for the Quakers placing in a tie for third with a 9.725. Junior Kaitlyn Reszkowski followed with a 9.700 and senior Nicki Valenti (9.675) and freshman Rachel Graham (9.650) right behind the two of them.

Penn will now turn its attention to the Ivy Classic next Sunday at Brown. The Quakers finished in third place last year, after winning the event in 2011 and 2012. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
