Gymnastics Finishes Third at Ivy Classic

New Haven, Conn. -- The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team finished in third place at the Ivy Classic held on Saturday at Yale. The Quakers scored a 188.525 in the event. Yale won the Classic with a score of 191.525, Cornell placed second with a 189.075 and Brown finished fourth with a 186.050. The Quakers were the 2004 Ivy Classic Champions.

"We had a rough day on the beam," said Head Coach Tom Kovic. "The first three events went well, but we faultered on the beam and gave it away."

Individually, Laura Bouchelle won the vault with a 9.650. Leah Moon finished fifth in the same event with a 9.525. On the bars, Kara Dewhurst finished second with a 9.800, her highest score of the season. Another brigh spot for the Quakers was the performance of freshman Kimberly Chin, who finished fourth on the bars with a 9.750 and fourth on the beam as the Quakers highest finisher in the event with a 9.600. On the floor, Emily Petkun finished fifth with a 9.625. She also finished third in the all-around competition with a score of 37.250.

The Quakers are next in action on March 10, when they travel to the Air Force Academy for a 7 p.m. MST start.
