PITTSBURGH - The Penn gymnastics team continued to show improvement on the season, as it recorded its highest total score of the season with a 189.625, good for third place at the quad meet Friday evening. The Quakers finished behind host Pittsburgh (194.525), Western Michigan (191.425), and in front of George Washington (189.475).
Starting on bars, Penn was led by junior Elise Bowe with her 9.600, a personal season-high. Sophomore Laura DiPaolo and freshman Megan Milavec also had solid performances, both marking a 9.450.
Freshmen Dana Bonincontri and Megan Milavec piloted the Quakers on beam, both receiving career-bests with 9.725's. DiPaolo earned a 9.600, helping Penn to its best team beam score of the year (47.800).
On floor, freshman Kirsten Strausbaugh led the way for the Red and Blue with a 9.675, followed closely by Bonincontri's 9.650. Milavec (9.500), freshman Dana Hollinger (9.450), Katie Graham (9.350), and Bowe (9.350) all contributed to an overall strong performance on the event (47.625).
The Red and Blue shattered its season-best vault score with a 47.800. DiPaolo led a high performing contingent with her 9.725. Strausbaugh recorded a 9.650, with Graham (9.550), and Hollinger (9.500) also adding impressive scores.
Graham led Quakers in the all-around with a 37.350, while Strausbaugh earned a 36.975.
Penn is back in action next Friday, hosting Temple, Maryland, and Southern Connecticut at 7 p.m. in Hutchinson Gymnasium.
