PHILADELPHIA - A week that saw Penn post its highest team score of the season ended with two members of the gymnastics squad receiving weekly honors from the ECAC. Junior Jordan Brewer was named Co-Gymnast of the Week and senior co-captain Stephanie Ortiz was honored as Co-Coach's Choice of the Week.
Brewer had the finest all-around performance of her career last Saturday during a quad meet hosted by Penn. She scored a 38.850. Her day was highlighted by a career-best 9.775 on the floor exercise. She added scores of 9.700 (vault), 9.725 (bars) and 9.650 (beam) to finish second amongst Quaker gymnasts in the all-around.
Ortiz competed in three events for the Red and Blue on Saturday, and she equalled or surpassed her season high in all three events. On bars, she put up a score of 9.650 - a new career high. She added a second 9.650 on the beam and finished the day with a 9.700 on floor. She is rounding into form at the right time for the Quakers as they look to finish the season strong and make some noise at the ECAC Championships March 29 in Williamsburg, Va.
The Quakers are back in action March 12 when they travel to William & Mary for a tri-meet along with Towson.
