Gymnastics Heads to Ivy Classic

PHILADELPHIA--The Quaker gymnastics team is set to compete at the Ivy Classic Saturday in New Haven, Conn. The team will look to senior Jordan Brewer to continue putting up high marks on individual events as well as the all-around.

Penn has been without junior Marissa Rosen who has only competed once this season and is out with an injury. Rosen won back-to-back individual titles at the Ivy Classic. In 2007, she won on beam and in 2008 took the vault title. Junior Lizzie Lowe won the 2007 bars title at the Classic.

The Penn beam unit has been dominate thanks to the consistency of senior Sarah Parsons and high scores from Brewer and freshman Rebecca Engberg. It is the Quakers’ highest scoring event with a best of 47.950 this season.

On vault, freshman Laura DiPaolo and Brewer have turned in top scores. DiPaolo has not scored under 9.500 in the event this season.

On bars, DiPaolo has again emerged as a consistent scorer with two of the top five Penn scores this season. Lowe has held onto the top spot however with a 9.650 this earlier this season.

Floor has been a trouble spot for Penn, though it has seen two of the highest scores this season. Brewer scored a personal best 9.850 earlier this season, but the marks drop off quickly with an average score of 9.185 for individuals and 45.925 as a team.

Last season Cornell and Yale shared the team title and Penn scored 188.025 points.

The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
