PHILADELPHIA – The Penn gymnastics team will be back in action on March 9 for a quad-meet scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in State College, Pa. The Quakers will be competing against ECAC rival Temple, New Hampshire and host Penn State.
The Red and Blue are heading into the meet fresh off their record-setting day on bars in the dual win over Ursinus in Collegeville, Pa. on March 3. Penn scored a team total of 48.775 on bars, which ties for the second-highest in program history. They were led by Elyse Shenberger (career-high 9.850) and Kirsten Strausbaugh (9.800), who were both honored this past week by the ECAC as Rookie of the Week and Coaches Choice award winner, respectively.
The Quakers have met one of their opponents once already this season. Penn and Temple both competed in the GW Invitational to open 2013, and the Red and Blue placed fourth with a 189.575 – the Owls finished fifth with a 187.900.
New Hampshire enters Saturday on a high after winning its annual UNH Invitational. The Wildcats finished first in front of Towson, Yale and Brown with a 194.850 score. The Nittany Lions most recent meet was a 196.300-195.775 dual victory over Illinois in Champaign, Ill. on March 2.
