PHILADELPHIA - It's been over a month since the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team competed in the City of Philadelphia, but this weekend they will do just that. The Quakers will travel up Broad Street for a meet at Temple with the Owls and Bridgeport on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last weekend, the Quakers took fourth at the Ivy Classic with a 191.050, but did see Elyse Shenberger take a share of the Individual bars title.
Before last weekend, Penn had set season-highs for score in the past three meets, suggesting that they are peaking at the right time. After this weekend, the Quakers will host their final home meet and then take a shot at the ECAC Championship.
SCOUTING TEMPLE: It was only two weeks ago that Penn saw Temple in a tri meet at Rutgers. The Red and Blue got the best of the Owls that day, when Penn scored a season-high, 192.400. Since then, the Owls have finished fourth in a meet at West Chester featuring West Virginia and Penn State, before they topped all four teams they faced last weekend at Ithaca College with a 191.150.
SCOUTING BRIDGEPORT: Coming off a trip to Nebraska, Bridgeport will make the trip south to Philadelphia for its sixth meeting with an Ivy League opponent. The Purple Knights have been impressive in 2016, scoring over 194 five times already this season. Their best performance came in a dual meet at Brown where they posted a 194.825 three weeks ago.
