Gymnastics Heads to Towson

PHILADELPHIA - Penn got into the win column last weekend with two victories over West Chester and Wilson at a quad meet held in Hutchinson gym. The Quakers look to continue that momentum as they travel down I-95 to Baltimore this evening to participate in the Shelly Calloway Invitational held at Towson University.

The evening will also allow a chance for the Red and Blue to exact a little revenge on teams that have already defeated them this season. Joining the host Tigers (a 192.500 - 186.475 winner over Penn 1/19) will be Cornell (189.750 - 183.825 winners on 2/2) and Ursinus (187.950 - 186.400 winners on 2/9). Also in action Friday night will be Temple.

The Quakers will bring with them sophomore Marissa Rosen, the reigning ECAC Co-Gymnast of the Week. She won her third all-around title of the season in last week's quad-meet. She posted a score of 38.425 while posting two first-place finishes in individual events (bars and floor). The win on floor was her third of the season.

Towson is the three-time defending ECAC Champion and has won the last four Shelly Calloway Invitationals. Junior Annukka Almenoksa won her first career all-around title at last week's Big Red Invitational at Cornell and looks to continue her solid season.

Cornell is 6-4 and scored a season-hgh 190.200 team points at their own meet last weekend.

Ursinus swept the quad-meet at Penn last weekend to up its record to 7-3. Kira Oldham-Curtis finished second in the all-around to Rosen and will look to close that gap in Baltimore.

Temple has a stellar freshman leading the way in Katie Canning. The rookie leads the team, averaging 38.400 in the all-around.
