PHILADELPHIA - In pursuit of its first win of the season, the Penn gymnastics team heads to New Haven, Conn. Saturday to face Ivy foe Yale at 1 p.m.
In its home opener last weekend the Quakers fell to Rutgers University 190.725 to 185.100. Many of the Red and Blue had career-best routines, including senior co-captain Jenny Hurst's 9.725 on beam. The score gave her a three-way tie for first-place and got her recognized as the ECAC's Specialist of the Week. Fellow senior co-captain Lucy la Cour and junior Briana Pressey also had career-best showings, scoring a 9.700 and 9.400, respectively, on floor.
Yale comes off a third-place finish at a meet hosted by No. 22 Penn State on Jan. 23. The Bulldogs scored a 186.125, finishing in front of defending Ivy Classic champion Cornell.
Last year, the Quakers topped the Bulldogs in all three of their meetings. Penn came away with a 184.900 to 181.475 win in Hutchinson Gym on Jan. 17. They clashed again in the Ivy Classic where the Red and Blue finished ahead of Yale 187.325-185.200. Lastly, the Quakers earned their last victory of the season at the ECAC Championship, topping Yale 190.075-184.450.
