PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team will host its first home meet of the season against Illinois State, Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The meet will be the inaugural meet for the Quakers in John R. RockwellGym inside the recently renovated Hutchinson Gymnasium.

After starting the season with a fourth place finish (183.125) at George Washington in the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, the Quakers now focus their attention on Illinois State for their first dual meet of the season.

Illinois State has competed twice so far this season, losing to Ball State (189.000-188.950) and finishing third (187.400) in a meet at Iowa State.

Last Sunday in Washington D.C., Penn saw individual top-10 performances in beam by Amber Hu, Kelly Tan and Carissa Lim. The Quakers also placed Nicki Valenti and Rachel Graham in the top-10 individually in floor.

After hosting just one home match last year due to the renovation construction, this Saturday’s meet against Illinois State will be the first of four home meets slated to be held in Rockwell Gym in 2014.

In addition to the new facility for competition, Penn also trains in the new state-of-the-art Nalitt Family Gymnastics Center inside Hutchinson Gymnasium.

The training facility features space for four balance beams, two vaulting runways, three sets of uneven bars, a trench-channel single bar, the floor exercise and a tumbling strip. Additionally, the facility boasts loose foam training pits, as well as in-ground rezi pits, to allow athletes to work on elements for all events.
