PHILADELPHIA - It was senior day inside Hutchinson Gymnasium Friday and theUniversity of Pennsylvania gymnastics teamwas impressive with a second-place finish in the four-team meet.
Maryland won the meet with a score of 194.450. In Penn's second-place showing, the Quakers earned 191.325 points. Temple was third at 191.025 and Southern Connecticut was fourth at 189.825.
Penn's best rotation was on the bars with a score of48.275. Dana Bonincontri and Kirsten Strausbaugh led the Quakers with scores of 9.775 and 9.750, respectively.
The Quakers were also strong on the floor in the final rotation. The Quakers slid into second-place with a score of 48.050. Once again, both Bonincontri and Strausbaugh led the way. Bonincontri earned a 9.775, while Strausbaugh finished with a score of 9.700.
Strausbaugh won the all-around competition with a score of 38.750. Bowe finished in a tie for second in the all-around with her total of 37.750.
On the vault, Laura DiPaolo finished with a 9.800. Only one other competitor at the meet topped that performance. Strausbaugh added a 9.650 in the event and then had Penn's best effort on the beam along with Bonincontri.The two had identicalscores of 9.650.
Penn's three seniors - Jenny Hurst, Lucy la Cour and Lizzie Lowe - were all honored after the meet. Penn returns to action on Wednesday as they host Wilson, West Chester and Ursinus at 6 p.m. in the final home meet of the year.
