WASHINGTON D.C. - Competing in its first meet of the season, the Penn gymnastics team placed sixth with a score of 179.550 at theLindsey Ferris Invite Sunday afternoon. The Quakersfinished behind North Carolina (192.450), Temple (189.150), George Washington (187.825), Cornell (186.800), and William and Mary (183.575).
With many of last season's standouts out due to injury, Penn looked to a few of its underclassmen to rise to the occasion. Sophomore Katie Graham earned the Red and Blue's highest score of the competition, placing fifth on beam with a career high score of 9.600.
Junior Elise Bowe scored the team's highest bars score (9.050) and represented the Quakers in the all-around (36.725), along with freshman Megan Milavec (34.650).
Senior captainLucy la Cour led the Quakers on vault with a 9.325, as well as floor exercise, scoring a 9.450. Junior Briana Pressey topped her previous personal best on floor with 9.100.
Penn is back in action next Saturday for its home opener versusRutgers at 1 p.m.
