PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Earning their best score of the season, the Penn gymnastics team finished in third place at Sunday's Ivy Classic at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, R.I. Cornell took the title for the third year in a row with a score of 192.550, followed by Brown (189.675), Penn (189.550), and Yale (187.500).
Leading the way for Penn was freshman phenom Dana Bonincontri who took home a share of the uneven bars title, tying the Big Red's Bethany Neczypor with a 9.675. Sophomore Laura DiPaolo's 9.550 was good for fifth place and freshman Megan Milavec scored a personal best, 9.450.
DiPaolo had the Quakers top score on vault with a 9.625 fourth-place finish, followed by Dana Hollinger and Kirsten Strausbaugh's pair of 9.500's. As a team, the Red and Blue tied its season's best score (47.325).
Bonincontri had another strong performance on beam, earning third individually with a 9.700. Impressive marks across the board, including Katie Graham's 9.625, Milavec's 9.600, and Strausbaugh's 9.575 gave Penn a cumulative 47.625; a season-high.
Also their best collective score all year, the Quakers earned a 47.825 on floor, led by Strausbaugh's fourth-place 9.775. Bonincontri's 9.650 and Claire Stringley's 9.625 gave Penn's score a nice boost.
Strausbaugh had a very strong day on all events, scoring a 37.600 in the all-around for a third-place finish.
The Quakers are back in action Friday when they travel to Pittsburgh to face Pitt, George Washington and Western Michigan.
