PHILADELPHIA - With a score of 181.200, Penn's gymnastics team came in third out of four teams at Sunday's Liberty Classic, hosted by Temple. The Quakers finished in front of West Chester who scored 176.375, and behind Temple (188.375) and Ursinus (181.725).
Junior Elise Bowe led Penn on a number of events, including her 9.275 on bars. She tied senior Jenny Hurst on beam with a 9.425, whilesophomore Katie Graham had a team-high 9.450.
Freshman Dana Hollinger led the Quakers on floor with a 9.225, followed closely by Graham's 9.200 and Bowe's 9.175.
Sophomore Laura DiPaolo had a strong performance on vault, scoring a 9.675. Hollinger tallied a season-high 9.525, while freshmen Kirsten Strausbaugh and Megan Milavec both had a 9.375.
In the all-around, Bowe led Penn with a 37.150, followed by Graham, recording a 36.225, and Milavec accumulated a 36.125.
The Quakers will have another crack at West Chester and Ursinus along with Wilson when they host Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Hutchinson Gymnasium. It will also be Penn's Pink Meet for Breast Cancer Awareness in which the Quakers will be wearing pink leotards. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the meet or to donate financially to the Rena Rowan Breast Center at the University of Penn Hospital.
