Gymnastics Prepares for Annual Red-Blue Competition

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's gymnastics team will compete in the 19th annual Red-Blue intrasquad competition on Friday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. in Hutchinson Gym. It will be the final tune-up before the Quakers start the regular season on Jan. 14. The event is free and open to the public.
The Quakers will be led by senior tri-captains Desirae Gaspero, Becca Aronson and Jessica Fuerst. The 2006 Quakers return 12 letterwinners from the 2005 squad that placed third at ECAC's. In addition, the 2005 team ranked fifth in the nation in academics, with a team GPA of 3.51.
"The intrasquad competition is one I look forward to each December," said 19th-year Head Coach Tom Kovic. "It serves two basic purposes - first, it acts as a gauge to team progress since September, and second, it gives us a good look at the freshmen under pressure and in a structured competitive environment."
Penn begins the regular season on Jan. 14 when it hosts a quad-meet featuring 2005 ECAC team champion Towson. The competition also includes Ursinus and Wilson, and starts at 6 p.m. in Hutchinson Gym.
