Gymnastics Previews Season with Red & Blue Meet

PHILADELPHIA - On Friday, the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team gave fans a preview of the 2015 season, when the Quakers showcased their skills in the Red & Blue intrasquad meet held in the Nalitt Family Gymnastics Center.

The free event open to the public featured the Quakers split into two teams competing against one another on all four events; vault, beam, bars, and floor. After the meet, the Penn gymnasts mingled with fans during a team meet and greet.

Led by senior captain Wynne Levy, the Blue squad captured the meet over senior captain Kaitlyn Reszkowski’s Red squad, 111.75-108.025.

Top performances turned in by the Blue squad came from senior Amber Woo on the vault (9.55) and bars (9.425), junior Morgan Venuti on floor (9.25), and freshman Alex Hartke on the beam (9.5) and floor (9.25).

For the Red team, junior Amber Hu led the way on beam (9.525), while freshman Megan Finck totaled a 9.325 on vault, and freshman Emily Shugan scored a 9.45 on bars. Reszkowski led the squad on floor, with a 9.35.

Penn will host the Ivy Classic and USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals inside the Palestra this season, along with four other home meets on the schedule.

Led by Head Coach John Ceralde, the Quakers regular season will begin at home against Stanford and Bridgeport on Sunday, Jan. 18, inside The Palestra.
