Philadelphia, Pa.- The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team completed a season-sweep of Temple on Wednesday in Hutchinson Gymnasium.TheQuakersposteda score of 189.500 to Temple's score of 188.600 to win the meet. It was the third meeting between the two teams and the second one in five days, with all three going in the Quakers favor.
The Quakers (6-0) fell behind on the first two events, scoring a 47.125 on the vault to Temple's 47.425.On the bars, the Quakers scored a 47.150 but were outpaced by theOwls, 47.600.However, Penn came back to win the beam, 46.575 to 45.825. The Quakers dominated the floor exercise, winning that with a score of 48.650 to 47.730 to take the meet.
Individually,senior Laura Bouchelle finished second on the vault with a score of 9.650. Junior Emily Petkun won the parallel bars with a score of 9.650 and freshman Kimberly Chin placed fourth with a 9.500. The Quakers then swept the top four spots on the beam. Junior Desirae Gaspero won the event with a 9.650, Petkun placed second with a 9.575 and seniors Leah Moon and Lex Chalat finished third and fourth with a 9.500 and 9.350, respectively. Penn then swept the top three spots in the floor exercise, the Quakers last of the day. Chalat won the even with a 9.825 while Moon and Petkun tied for second wtih a 9.750 each. The Quakers also took five of the top six spots in the event.
The Quakers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. when they hostUrsinus, West Chester and Wilsonin Hutchinson Gymnasium.
