PHILADELPHIA - Finishing the 2016 season, the University of Pennsylvania gymanstics team will send 10 gymnasts to the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals at Lindenwood University in St. Charles Mo. Headlining the group will be all five seniors from this year's team, Carissa Lim, Elyse Shenberger, Amber Hu, Emily Paterson, and Morgan Venuti.
For Shenberger, it will be an opportunity to sweep the 2016 individual championships in uneven bars. She competed in her final Ivy Classic in February and won a share of the Uneven Bars title with a 9.85 and added the ECAC title in March with a 9.825. Shenberger will also be chasing her third USAG All-America selection.
Venuti will compete in three events at Lindenwood, the most by any Quaker. She will take her reps on vault, bars, and floor in her final USAG collegiate competition. Venuti was a First-team USAG All-American in vault and bars a year ago.
Rounding out the first session on Friday will be Paterson. The senior captain will compete for the red and blue for the 44th and final time in her career on vault.
ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the YearHu, will complete her four-year journey with Penn in the second session. Penn's tri-captain will compete in both bars and beam.
Finally, a 2013 USAG First-Team All-American will compete at Nationals for the final time. Lim will try to recreate her impressive display from her freshman year, finishing fifth in the finals.
Joining the seniors at the competition will be Kelly Tan, Alex Hartke, Ally Podsednik, Kyra Levi, and Rachel Graham.
Fresh off her ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, Tan will compete on the beam in session one. Hartke (floor) and Podsednik (vault) will join her in the early session.
Session two will feature junior-captainGraham and sophomoreLevi. Graham will take her chances on beam and floor, while Levi will compete on bars and floor.
