PHILADELPHIA – During the month of March, the Penn Champions Club launched the Penn Athletics Women’s Giving Challenge - a 31 day giving campaign encouraging all female athletics alumnae to support their former programs. Each female team was competing for bonus gifts awarded to the three teams with the highest percentage of alumnae participation. The bonus gifts were generously sponsored by the Trustees’ Council of Penn Women and Bill Constantine, C’66 W’68. The top three finishers are listed below:Gymnastics (awarded $6,000 bonus gift) Softball (awarded $3,000 bonus gift) Lacrosse (awarded $1,000 bonus gift)
The Gymnastics team was triumphant with 24% participation from its alumnae.
During this challenge, alumnae from every team participated, resulting in over 250 alumnae making gifts to Penn Athletics and over $74,000 dollars raised. In addition, 30% of all alumnae donors during the challenge were new or reactivated donors—a huge success by any measure.
“This year’s Women’s Giving Challenge displayed the power of support from our Penn Athletics alumnae and the magnitude of what can happen when this group bands together and connects with their peers to help their programs be successful in the classroom and in competition. Thank you to everyone who participated in this initiative.” noted Scarlett K. Schneider, Ph.D, Executive Director of Athletics Development.
The Penn Champions Club is committed to the holistic development of every student-athlete across each of Penn’s 33 varsity sports. The financial contributions from the supporters of Penn Athletics help advance the mission and provide a foundation for our student-athletes that will serve them not only on their four years on campus, but for the next forty years as well. Thank you to the over 250 Penn Athletics alumnae who participated in the 2016 Women’s Giving Challenge. If you would like to support Penn Athletics, please click here.
