PHILADELPHIA - Following Penn's best start in more than five years, senior Ashley Hawkins has been named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Hawkins hit a team-high .516 over the weekend with 37 kills and 12 total blocks as she led the Quakers to the Big 5 Tournament title. She was named MVP of the tournament after recording a career-high 17 kills and matching her personal best with six total blocks in a five-set comeback victory over Villanova.
The senior finished with double digit kills in each of Penn's victories over the weekend and didn't hit under .500 in any of her three matches.
Junior setter Megan Tryon was also honored by the Ivy League for her play over the weekend, as she was named to the honor roll.
Tryon finished with 60 assists and 11 digs in a five-set win over Temple on Friday night and followed it up with 44 assists in a win over La Salle. The junior also had 44 assists and 16 digs in the Big 5 clinching match over Villanova.
The Red and Blue return to action this weekend as the team travels to Houston, Texas to take part in the Houston Baptist Classic on Friday and Saturday. Penn's first match of the tournament will be Friday at 10 a.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Cristi.
