ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Penn heavyweight rowing teams came in third in the varsity 8 and second in the first freshman 8 against tough opponents in Navy and Harvard Saturday.
In the varsity 8, Harvard ran away with the Adams Cup in 6:08.4, leaving the Quakers and the Midshipmen to battle it out for second. Unfortunately, Penn was edged by the Mids by just over a second, finishing in 6:20.9 to Navy's 6:19.7.
In the first freshman 8, the Quaker novices continued their strong form by placing second in 6:32.1, behind Harvard (6:21.8) but well ahead of Navy (6:48.3).
Penn only competed in two of the morning's five races.
The Quakers take a three-week break before returning to the water to contest the Burk Cup with Northeastern on the Schuylkill River.
