REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The Penn heavyweight rowing team opened its season this weekend, racing some of the nation's top crews at the Windermere Classic in Redwood Shores, Calif.
The Quakers' varsity eight took on Washington, Trinity College and Stanford, falling against each. The Quakers lost to Washington by nearly three seconds in a time in 6:38.93 andfinished in 5:55.04 behind Trinity's 5:51.14. Stanford (6:22.9) eased past Penn's 6:36.1.
In Penn lone novice eight race, Cal-Berkley (6:31.60)defeated Penn (6:49.67), while in the freshman eight the Quakers got their lone victory of the day asPenn(6:44.2) was faster thanStanford (6:22.5). Also infreshman action, Washington (5:50.87) pulled away from the Quakers (6:03.73).
The Quakers return to the East Coast for the Childs Cup against Princeton and Columbia on April 8 at Princeton.
